An interview with Nacho Vigalondo
Spain's become an unexpected headspring for genre filmmaking in recent years, with The Orphanage, Pan's Labyrinth and [•REC] all making the crossover into the UK/US mainstream. One of the smartest of this Iberian wave is Nacho Vigalondo's Timecrimes, a deceptively small-scale take on time travel conundrums and the conventions of pulp slashers. It's enormously satisfying, horribly dark, and arguably very funny – a remarkable achievement for a director making his feature film debut, although the signs were there – Vigalondo (left) has an Oscar nomination under his belt for 7:35 in the Morning, which can only be described as suicide bomb romance.

Death Ray No. 19. The time is now.
Has it been two months already? Apparently so – which means Death Ray #19 is out now! In the shops and in the mail!
Once again, we press a monstrous 180 pages of science fiction goodness
into your eager hands, for the not-so-princely sum of £4.99. And if
you're still on the fence, know this; Death Ray is not a magazine you

19 promises to linger on your coffee table for weeks. Weeks! And this
is what's inside…

Write to Filmstar!
Last week we introduced you to Filmstar, the new movie magazine from Blackfish Publishing, coming your way on 28 May.
This week, we need your help.
We've got a wonderfully-designed letters page, but no letters to fill it. Maybe you could write one? But what should you write about? Whatever you like, of course (it's your letter!), but here are a few ideas…

The long arm of the law
Being an exclusive interview with Colin Ferguson, renowned for his performance as the wholesome Sheriff Jack Carter in science fiction superbrain show Eureka (a.k.a. A Town Called Eureka) and only the other day passing through the UK on convention duties. We touch on such issues as the strangely rebranded SyFy (né SCI FI), the future of Eureka, post-apocalyptic zombie-killing, family telly, and why actors should direct their own shows. All of this and more, under the jump.

"Amazing Turds"
Death Ray #18 is out now, and includes an interview with 'Did he just do that?!" B-movie master Frank Henenlotter, director of such appallingly brilliant films as Basket Case, Brain Damage and Frankenhooker. We spoke with Frank for far longer than we had space for in the magazine, so here's the interview in full. His latest film – Bad Biology – is available now on DVD. It's the story of two antsy, sexually abnormal lovers – she's a homicidal nymphomaniac with extra (umm…) organs downstairs, and he's lugging a two foot dong with a mind of its own. Frank, where do you come up with this stuff? Who give you the money to do it? And why? Why god why? Answers under the jump (contains spoilers and, er, venereal topics)…

Blue Movie!
In what can only be described as a 'marketing offensive', Doctor Manhattan emerged blue and clean last night from the roily Thames, dazzling all and sundry with his naked nuclear glory. Death Ray's Paul Tavner had a front seat on proud vessel The Golden Jubilee; here's his report…
