JOBS

Blackfish is expanding, and we're going to need some help. If you fancy working on a magazine you love, and you've got the sorts of skills we need – you're friendly, hard-working, full of ideas, willing to learn, know your stuff, super-talented, all that – then we'd love to meet you.

We have roles available across the spectrum of publishing jobs, from writing to sub-editing, editing to advertising sales, graphic design to reviews editing. Some will be on Death Ray, and some will be on the secret new projects we're working on. Exactly what each role will entail will take firmer shape over the next few months as the company expands, but we thought it worth giving you lot the heads up on what's happening now. We'd like to talk to everyone, from the completely inexperienced to the industry veteran, because there's a chance you might be just what we're looking for.

Editors and section editors

We need a backbone of experienced professionals, capable of running every aspect of a magazine, or of organising vital sections, such as the news or reviews pages. Could you step into Matt or Guy's shoes, and look after every aspect of a magazine like Death Ray? Or could you take on a large section like Dark Stars, and run it like a smooth, well-oiled machine? These are roles that demand that you can write, commission, and sub-edit: true all-rounder jobs, suitable for the dynamic and difficult to fluster.

Writers

Could you step into a magazine and hit the ground running, turning out page after page of vital, fascinating, friendly, well-crafted copy? If so, you may be for us. These are roles that may suit everyone from the experienced writer to the fresh college leaver: it's raw talent that counts most of all, and the right attitude second.

Graphic designers

From magazine art editor, responsible for making sure each Blackfish title looks just as good as Death Ray, to junior graphic designer, we've got a number of 'crayon' roles on offer. Again, we're interested in talking to everyone from new college leavers to experienced professionals: we've got some of the most graphically intensive, sexiest-looking titles on the newsstand planned, and we need designers who can make them look as good as we dream they'll look.

Advertising sales

Blackfish hasn't had an in-house advertising department until now, so them opportunities here are immense: to help build, shape, and run a fresh new department, selling on some of the most dynamic new magazines in the industry. Again, we'll be looking at everyone from experience advertising managers to those keen to learn the ropes.
